Wow, it's March already! Things at MJHS are busy, busy, busy! Your students are in the thick of their American Civil War unit, learning about the things that led America to the breaking point. They have had some great classroom discussions about slavery and sectionalism, two important factors in the war. They have just begun to demonstrate their understanding of the causes of the war and will soon work on an independent project that dives further into individuals reasons for fighting in the war, whether for the North or the South. To help give context to our learning, students are watching a one-hour excerpt from the movie, "Gettysburg." They learn about the "boys from Maine," the 20th Maine regiment under the command of Joshua Chamberlain, and their brave resistance of the Rebels at Little Round Top.
Just a reminder that I have links to your student's Slavery podcast projects, if you would like to see and hear their research. Just let me know and I will send you the link.
Keep following along on Instagram. We've had some amazing Mystery Skypes with lots of states and countries!
FYI: The 7th grade girls will be going on a field trip next week to UMaine to take part in Expanding Your Horizons, through the UMaine Engineering Department. Permissions slips are going home today. The boys will stay at MJHS and take part in their own team-building activities.
